You hear it every time you slow down. That squeal. Sometimes a grind. Or maybe it's just that soft, spongy feeling when you press the pedal that wasn't there six months ago. Whatever it is, you already know your brakes need attention and you just haven't had time to deal with it. Here's the thing about brakes in LA. Stop-and-go on the 405, riding them down Laurel Canyon, sitting in traffic on the 101 for 45 minutes just to go four miles... this city is hard on brake systems. Pads wear faster here than they would almost anywhere else. Most people are overdue by the time they actually get it looked at.
I'm a mobile mechanic and I do brake repair at your location all across Los Angeles. That means I come to your house, your apartment parking lot, your job, wherever your car is and I do the repair right there. No tow, no shop drop-off, no waiting around. You just need somewhere for me to park next to the car and access to it.

This is the most common brake job I do. When pads wear down past the wear indicator, you get that squeal. Wait longer and the metal-on-metal grinding starts. This is when the pad backing is digging into your rotor, and now you're looking at a bigger repair. I replace pads on all four wheels or just the ones that need it, depending on what the inspection shows. I always check both axles before I give you a quote.
Rotors don't always need to be replaced. If there's enough material left, I can resurface them and they'll work just as well as new. If they're worn past the minimum thickness or warped (which is what causes that pulsing feeling when you brake) then replacement is the right call. I'll tell you which one it is before I do anything.
Brake fluid absorbs moisture over time and that moisture lowers the boiling point of the fluid. In a hard braking situation like when you're coming down a hill fast, or you need to make an emergency stop on the freeway this will degrade the fluid which can cause brake fade when you need them most. Most manufacturers recommend a flush every two years. A lot of people skip it but it's a quick job and worth doing.
Calipers squeeze the pads against the rotor when you brake. When a caliper sticks or seizes it can cause uneven wear, pulling to one side, or a dragging sensation while you drive. I inspect calipers as part of any brake job and replace them if needed.
Not sure if your brakes actually need work? I can do an inspection at your location and tell you exactly where things stand. Pad thickness, rotor condition, caliper function, fluid quality. I will check all of it and give you a straight answer. No hard sell. If they're fine, I'll tell you they're fine.
How Our Mobile Filter Replacement Service Works
Call me and describe what you're hearing or feeling
Are you hearing squealing, grinding, is the car pulling to one side, is the pedal sift, etc. Give me as many details as possible so I can get a good idea of what we're dealing with before I even get there. I'll give you an upfront price over the phone based on your year, make, and model.
Pick a time, I come to you
I'm available 7 days a week, 7AM to 7PM. Same-day brake service is available most of the time. We set a time on the phone and I show up at your location in Los Angeles with the parts already in the van.
I do the repair and walk you through it
Most brake jobs take an hour to two hours depending on what's needed. When I'm done I'll show you the old parts, tell you what I found, and answer any questions. The price I quoted you on the phone is what you pay unless the repair is different from what we discussed.
LA has no shortage of brake shops. Midas, Pep Boys, independent shops in every neighborhood. So why call a mobile mechanic?
Honestly, for a lot of people it comes down to time. Getting a car to a shop means dropping it off, getting a ride somewhere, waiting for a call, approving the work, getting another ride back, picking it up before they close. That's most of your day for a repair that takes an hour and a half. You can skip all of that by me coming to you.
There's also the markup question. Shops have extra costs like rent, staff, insurance on the building, a waiting room that needs to be cleaned and stocked. That overhead ends up in your bill. I don't have any of that. Just me, my van, and the tools and parts for your job. My prices are competitive and I tell you what they are upfront.
One more thing worth saying. National brake shops exist and some of them even do mobile service now. What they don't have is someone who actually knows Los Angeles. I know which neighborhoods have hills that kill rear brakes faster. I know the stop-and-go patterns on the 10 and the 110. When I tell you your front pads are worn unevenly, I'm not guessing, I'm looking at your car in the context of how it actually gets driven here in and around LA.
Frequently Asked Questions — Mobile Brake Repair Los Angeles
The most obvious sign is a high-pitched squeal when you press yours brakes. That's the wear indicator doing its job. Grinding means you've already worn through the pad and metal is hitting metal. A soft or spongy pedal usually points to a fluid or caliper issue. Pulling to one side when you brake can mean a stuck caliper or uneven pad wear. Any of those, call me and I'll come take a look.
Yes. Brake pad and rotor replacement doesn't require a lift. I work on the ground with jack stands. Caliper work and fluid flushes are the same. As long as I have reasonable access to the vehicle and a level surface to work on, a driveway or parking lot works fine. I do it every day.
Most pad replacements take 60 to 90 minutes. If rotors need replacing too, add another 30 to 45 minutes. A full four-wheel brake job usually wraps up in two to two and a half hours. I'll give you a time estimate when we talk.
Yes. I stock pads and rotors for the most common vehicles in the LA area before heading to your job. For less common vehicles or specific part requests, I'll confirm parts availability when you call and source them before I come out.
Most EVs use regenerative braking so the physical brake system actually sees less wear than a gas vehicle. The pads and rotors are still there though, and they still need service. I can work on the brake systems of most EVs but call me with your specific vehicle and I'll confirm.
I do brake repairs throughout Los Angeles and the surrounding area including Long Beach, Burbank, Pasadena, Glendale, Santa Monica, Torrance, Inglewood, Downey, El Monte, West Covina, Pomona, Santa Clarita, Hollywood, Culver City, Van Nuys, and North Hollywood. Don't see your city? Call me at 213-583-4159 and I'll tell you straight whether I can get to you.
Don't wait on brake problems. They don't get cheaper or easier the longer you put it off, they get worse.
